My Trip to DC--Day 4

Day 4

Mount Vernon

Life size statue of George and Martha Washington and their grandkids.

This is the main manor replica...but what else do I see? Eww!

The inside.

It was very green and beautiful!

Looking away from the mansion. You can see more other buildings on the property farther away.

Our group :)

We couldn't take pictures inside! But the walls were interesting colors. There was John Deere green and bright blues. The same colors the walls were painted back when Washington lived there. They signified great wealth.

I got to touch a tree that George Washington planted!

The bathroom.

The beautiful Potomac! Amazing!
When the Washingtons would have guest over and the young grandchildren would have some kids to play with, they would race to the end of this field. But the Washington grandchildren never won. They would always stop. Why? Because they knew the wall was there. And the other children didn't.

Hence the name, the Ha-ha wall.

Where Washington was originally laid to rest.

The graves of many other related to George Washington were around his tomb.
The new tomb.

The Museum.

Real mummy.

Titanboa. Life size model of worlds biggest snake. It's 48 feet long and estimated to be one and a half ton.

Museum of American History

No pictures allowed in this exhibit, but it held the flag that was flown over Fort McHenry in Baltimore Harbor. It is the one that inspired Francis Scott Keys to write the Star Spangled Banner. It had 15 stars and 15 stripes and currently is 30 by 34 feet. Tattered and worn, it was quite a sight.

Benjamin Franklin's walking stick!

Dorothy's red slippers.
